ID : 782
« back to classes page
Objects associated with George Washington have always been prized by collectors, both during his lifetime and after his death.  This course will survey a wide variety of items including paintings of the great man, branches of greenery picked at his tomb, and even objects with very dubious provenance, as we explore the ways Americans and others engaged in an often frenzied form of idol worship which has been described as “the Cult of Washington.”
