Lace became a fashion fad and a fabric in its own right by the 17th century.  What started the demand for lace?  How did its designs change to coordinate with the various clothing fabrics over time?  In particular, we’ll take a look at the entrance of the chintz fabric in the fashion world and its combination with lace.  The “bizarre" lace period, which successfully revived the lace industry during the early 18th century, will be studied.
