« back to classes page
"The Zimmermann Telegram" is a gem of a small book (200 pages) on an extremely important covert action in the First World War.  Written by two-time Pulitzer winning historian Barbara W. Tuchman, this book not only provides a window into World War One communications and code-breaking but also into German and British diplomatic efforts in support of their war aims.  In this class we will review what the various actors did and why, the results of these various actions, and the importance of all this to the war.  For this to work, participants are expected to read the book (a very easy read and available (used) from Amazon for as little as $3.50) and come prepared to discuss their thoughts and observations.
