Different voices in fiction, E. M. Forster, Edith Wharton, and Kazuo Ishiguro portray contrasting male – female relationships in their novels A Passage to India, Ethan Frome, and Remains of the Day.  In this course we will view the film versions of these three works of fiction respectively, supplemented by the texts of the novels, comparing the conflicts and resolutions of the primary male and female characters.  In different settings (time and place), the stories of these characters are resolved either with redemption or regret.
