Election specialists have identified some American elections that have been extremely important, often labeled critical elections. The first four sessions will deal with 1800, 1860, and 1932, with a bit about 1872, 1912, and 1964. The last two sessions will consider some more contemporary elections; we are unsure if they will eventually be viewed as critical for the polity, or just quite ordinary. We will consider
Presidential elections in 2000, 2008, and 2016, and Congressional elections in 2006, 2010, and 2014. And throughout, we will keep an eye on 2018.
