Long before the emergence of Greece and Rome, the most advanced societies lived in the Ancient Near East. Here were the first cities, temples, kingdoms, and empires. The heart of the Ancient Near East was Mesopotamia or the land between the two rivers, the Tigris and the Euphrates. This course is an introduction to the archaeology, history, and literature of these ancient times and places.
