Opera in Williamsburg, the exciting opera company that performs two fully-staged operas in Williamsburg each year, will open its doors so CWA members can observe a rehearsal. The singers will already have rehearsed the music before arriving in Williamsburg. This rehearsal will refine the music and address movement and gesture. There will be few costume pieces and minimal props. The stage director will be moving around and repositioning the singers, with a piano accompaniment. This semester the performance will be Georges Bizet's Carmen. Regarded as scandalous when it was first performed in 1875, Carmen is now a classic. Doors to the theater open at 11:30 a.m. Meet the conductor, 11:45 a.m. Rehearsal begins at 12:00 noon.
