The battle of Hampton Roads, March 8-9, 1862, was instrumental in both the Civil War and future Naval warfare. It was the first battle in history between ironclads: Union's USS Monitor and Confederacy's CSS Virginia (not the Merrimack). This course includes a lecture on the construction of the two ships, the battle and its aftermath.
