Plataea, 479 B.C., the Greeks defeat the Persians and win their freedom. Tours, 732 A.D., the Franks defeat Muslim invaders and Europe will be Christian. Hastings, 1066, first battle of William of Normandy’s campaign to conquer England. Vienna (Kahlenberg), 1683, Ottoman Turks are defeated, ending the last major Muslim incursion into Europe. Trafalgar, 1805, the Royal Navy’s defeat of the combined French and Spanish fleets ends Napoleon’s dream of invading and conquering Britain. Jutland, 1916, the Royal Navy’s victory ensured that their blockade of Germany would continue, which continued Germany’s downward spiral into starvation and defeat.
