« back to classes page
This course will appeal to two large groups of readers: those who like "serious" literature but can't explain why, and those who feel intimidated by such literature and feel they prefer reading "popular" literature, like mystery novels. Both groups often refer to popular literature as a "guilty pleasure." This course will use the short stories of contemporary short story writer Ron Rash. Rash uses Appalachian materials and has been very successful in the literary world. His short stories will show participants how serious literature can also be fun to read.
