The Critical Role of Congressional Oversight in American Democracy

ID : 1290
« back to classes page
The conflict between the executive branch and the Congress has reached an unprecedented level of discord. Our constitution's carefully designed system of checks and balances is a pillar of American democracy. We will discuss the importance of, and the legal foundation for, the critical role of oversight in our democratic society. Previous congressional hearings regarding IRS misconduct and Russian organized crime will be analyzed. We will also look at the role of inspectors general, who focus from within on the integrity and efficiency of agency programs, and report to and support both their agencies and the Congress. This will be an apolitical look at preserving the integrity of our government and our democracy.
