Political cartoons have been used to present a point of view on controversial issues for centuries. In order to be able to analyze and interpret a cartoonist's position, it is necessary to understand how this message is incorporated in the cartoon's development. The elements that are used in a cartoon's creation will be reviewed. These elements that assist in a cartoon's interpretation. This part of the presentation will set the stage for an examination of historical examples as they relate to specific topics. Possible issues to be featured are immigration, the environment, Colonial America, and the American presidency.
