Archaeology's subject matter provides a unique perspective on the lives of Williamsburg's past residents--those with names still associated with the Historic Area, and those whose names were not recorded. This course takes a deep dive into the households of
John Custis (planter, politician, and scientific gardener), James Geddy (patriarch of a metal-working family), and Richard Charlton
(proprietor of the Coffeehouse). Taking on one household per class session, Colonial Williamsburg’s archaeologists will guide an
exploration of the written history, the excavations, and the artifacts that shape the stories of this 18th century community.
