The Internet is fundamental for modern day computing based services. The internet is the result of many innovations in computing
over the past 60 years. Major milestones in the evolution of the internet will be used to explain what the internet is, and the basics of how it works. The internet supports a broad range of applications including, among others, email, web browsing using the World Wide Web, messaging, ecommerce, peer-to-peer computing (sharing computing resources), and social media.
