« back to classes page
The football and basketball programs, running at a high level after World War II, were hit by an admissions scandal that ultimately changed the course of the two programs in the college's history. The scandal also involved W&M President John Pomfret, who resigned. The faculty's involvement in pressing for a thorough investigation changed the course of big time football and finally resulted in the style of student/athlete football currently played at W&M. The basketball program also was diminished.
